Alpine Village Hall

A new village hall provides a focal point for an alpine settlement.

Alpine Village Hall

The new village hall in Steinberg am Rofan is a compact timber prefabricated structure on an exposed concrete base, covered with a simple gable roof. Together with the church and municipal office, it forms an ensemble that defines a focal point in this scattered alpine settlement. Openings are generously but sparingly placed in the structure. They orient the building toward the village square.

On the weather side, the untreated vertical plank cladding already exhibits a fine silver sheen. The timber for the community center comes largely from the larch forests of the high valley and could also be processed directly by the village sawmill. Siberian larch was used only for the window and door elements. Inside, the slightly elongated building is divided into three clearly separated areas: a foyer, a multi-purpose hall, and a small village restaurant. The latter is connected to the terrace seating area via generous sliding doors.
